Bathory - The Return......: Bathory's second album laid the foundation for black metal as it came to be known in the early 1990s. It's exploration of ceremonial darkness and celebration of lustful passion in primitive and violent music inspired a proper formalization of its style, initiated in Norway by Mayhem, Immortal, and DarkThrone. With The Return...., metal discovered its darkest and most warlike expression of the rebellious spirit.
